Clara Rosa's coiled and sewn pine needle baskets have been described as museum quality pieces.
She gathers ponderosa pine needles in the interior of B.C., and uses natural materials to embellish her baskets. Artificial sinew, which is very durable, is used by this master stitcher of traditional coiled pine needle baskets.
Funtional bowls, trays, and baskets are embellished with pine cones, seed pods, nuts, leather, wood beads and other natural materials.
The artist grows and prepares gourds and combines these with pine needle basketry.
Clara uses gourds as canvas. Her designs include folk art, flowers, south western motifs... Some are buff toned, others very colourful.
Clara uses pyrography to decorate some of her gourds.
