Inspired by the surroundings of the Northern Coastal rain forests in BC, Michael Augerâs sculpting takes shape through the medium of naturally fallen old growth wood found on his many forays to Vancouver Island , Anmore, as well as Gabriola Island British Columbia. These woods consist of pine, fir, hemlock and spruce.
His work inspires the imagination by combining âsensual and mystical spiritâ like characters within his sculptures. A creative artist who has worked with lighting for film, stage theatre, television ,and live music for 25 years ,with his artistry now taking form in sculpting works .
Michael is a native Canadian and was raised in Montreal, Quebec. He took drawing and painting at a young age, and later studied Professional Theatre production at John Abbott College.
âI have always been fascinated by shapes and textures and how they are affected by light and how they in turn affect our emotions.
When bringing a sculpture to life, I always feel the wood for many days until I feel its essence and begin the lengthy process of bringing this to life and sculpting it into the figure that it isâ
Michael and his wife Karen and their 4 leggers, reside on,Gabriola Island and spend a great deal of their time enjoying the natural beauty and inspiration of the Island.
**Each sculpture is uniquely hand crafted and is a one of kind creation**
