I grew up as a 'Navy Brat' in Victoria, BC. I am a second generation "Island Girl" born on January 7, 1962. My career as a Registered Nurse has helped me to understand and appreciate life more so than I think I would have in any other career. Existence, as I see it, is tenuous and my photography is a way to honor its passage in the moment and capture the beauty within its flaws. It allows me to stop and feel the hot sun or cool air while smelling the sea salt or inhaling fragrant-scented flowers. When I am photographing people, I am inspired most when events are allowed to unfold naturally, with minimal posing, in order to capture the essence of the scene. When photographing nature, it is not unusual for me to take photos of the same flower, stone, tree or insect, at every possible angle, letting my imagination get lost. For a moment in time, I allow myself to identify with Alice in Wonderland, "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?" ~Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. Photography is my nonsense world. I cordially invite you in...
